My journey to becoming a Doula came from a passion for the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth and a hope that all parents have a positive and fulfilling birth experience. I believe this happens through continuous emotional support, comfort and education throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery. Education is vital to making informed choices during pregnancy and birth. These informed choices are a first of many that you will make for your child.
I have experience handling special cases such as high risk pregnancy, teen pregnancy, multiples, c-section, birth defects and fetal demise. My personal experience with infertility gives me a clear understanding of the process as well as the physical and more importantly, the emotional component.
My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University, Doula Certification from the Healing Arts Institute in Ft. Collins, Colorado and a Certificate in Christian Childbirth from Cascade Christian Childbirth. I have over 9 years of experience as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and am happy to answer questions about your baby's development. I am a mother of three including fraternal twins.
It is a privilege and an honor to be invited to the special and intimate event of childbirth. I look forward to helping you create a blessed beginning for you and your baby. My services are available in Sheridan, Buffalo and Gillette.
Testimonials From My Clients
"Shellie was wonderful to work with. Very professional and always friendly. She was there for support whenever we needed her to answer questions and reassure us. She even spent hours walking around and around and around the mall with us while I was in early labor. Then, spent the rest of her night supporting us through our 14 hours of labor at the hospital. It gave us added confidence to know that we had her support.
This was my first child and I very much enjoyed having Shellie as our Doula and would love to have her join us again for our next delivery."

"My doctor told me that if Shellie had not of been there, I would have had a c-section."

"Shellie was an amazing support for my eleven-and-a-half hour labor. This was my first baby and I have severe anxiety disorder. I was extremely anxious about the birth, and all the horror stories of my friends didn't help my anxiety level. Shellie helped dispel these myths, and then helped me prepare for the birth by practicing my relaxations with me. She was open and willing to listen and learn about us so she could best help me learn how to relax, and she was happy to assist me with resources I already had invested in.
When labor came, Shellie helped me embrace it and ride everything to keep it going. She played a key role in helping keep me focused on bringing my baby into this world beautifully and peacefully. Micayla was born without any complications or interventions, drug free, and very gently. In fact, during my recovery on the women's care floor, every visitor and even the nurses thought Micayla was a c-section baby because of her perfectly round head!
However despite our amazing birth, it was Shellie's pre-natal and post partum support that most stood out. We asked Shellie to be our doula early, at about 24 weeks, because I'd had a few scares during the pregnancy, including a prematurely aging placenta. Shellie's continued support to help me stay calm and collected during those 18 weeks, and her knowledge of options and procedures helped me stay calm and feel empowered when they wanted to do unexpected procedures during a checkup.
Thanks to Shellie's prayer and emotional support during a very stressful part of the pregnancy, Micayla ended up being two weeks late! I believe had I not had her support, I might have had a preemie, and I know a more difficult labor."
